Ngā Kōkirikiri Advocacy
Our advocacy focuses on:
- The collective interests of people who experience mental distress or addiction, and the people, including whānau, who support them
- Improving mental health and addiction services
- Approaches to mental health and wellbeing.
We are prioritising three focus areas for our advocacy:
- Transforming from a coercive to a choice-based system
- Improving mental health and wellbeing for rangatahi and young people
- More kaupapa Māori services.
We cannot advocate alone. There are many ways that you can support our advocacy:
- Sign up for updates from us to learn more about what we are doing
- Have your say when we monitor mental health and addiction services
- Attend our webinars
- Invite us to meet with you or speak at upcoming events by emailing kiaora@mhwc.govt.nz
Our tools to create system change
The tools we have as an independent crown entity to create system change include engagement, monitoring, and advocacy. Making recommendations and calls to action are two closely related tools that we use to highlight the changes we want to see to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and adequacy. In the attached document we our approach to using these two tools.
