New board member announcement - welcome Wayne Langford
Te Hiringa Mahara has been governed by an active board since being formed in February 2021. On 27 September 2024 Matt Doocey, Minister for Mental Health, and Mark Patterson, Minister for Rural Communities, jointly announced the appointment of Wayne Langford as a new board member.
Wayne has been active promoting mental health and wellbeing in the rural community for many years. He is a former Board Member and current Advisor for Golden Bay Mental Health Services and Residential Treatment Facility – Te Whare Mahana. From 2022 to 2024 Wayne was a member of the Primary Industry Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy Group. He is involved in a variety of rural industry and community initiatives, including currently chairing Federated Farmers. Wayne farms with his family in Golden Bay.
At the next meeting of the Board in October, Wayne will be welcomed and begin his five-year term.
The role of the Board is to provide strategic guidance and oversight of our work and make sure that we perform our functions effectively and in a financially-responsible manner. Up to seven members are appointed by the Governor-General, under the Crown Entities Act 2004.
