2024 mental health and addiction services monitoring update webinar

Join us: 12pm Wednesday 19 June 2024

On 5 June 2024, we released Kua Tīmata Te Haerenga | The Journey Has Begun—our latest monitoring report on mental health and addiction services. This report focuses on access to mental health and addiction services and options available over the five-year period from July 2018 to June 2023.

We hosted a webinar to walk people through key findings from this report alongside the data behind these findings. We also shared the changes we want to see happen.

The report shows that service access has increased in some parts of the system but decreased in others. The new Access and Choice programme in primary care has increased access and expanded options for people with mild to moderate mental health and addiction needs. However, access to specialist services has decreased, with people reporting challenges accessing these services.

We look at the access challenges faced across the system, and for the first time we have make specific recommendations based on our findings.

Our speakers were:

  • Sonya Russell, Director Mental Health and Addiction System Leadership
  • Natalie Horspool, Principal Advisor Mental Health and Addiction Sector Leadership
  • Guy Baker, Principal Advisor Māori Whānau Lived Experience
  • Dr Ainsleigh Cribb-Su'a (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tamaterā, Ngāti Kauwhata), Director- Te Tūrangawaewae Manahau Research & Evaluation, National Hauora Coalition

Date: 12:00 pm Wednesday 19 June 2024.
